Summer Fun Project: Build a Fairy House

Fairy Houses are a delightful trend sweeping the nation. People are planning fairy house making parties, searching for hidden fairy houses, and scouring Pinterest for ideas on how to create their own.

If you’re tired of hearing “I’m bored!” or “There’s nothing to do” creating your own fairy house (or neighborhood) is a great summer project. This is a great lesson in creativity, engineering, decor, and architecture.

Begin by scouting out a great location. Location, in any housing situation, matters! You can house a whole fairy community at the base of a tree, a cluster of rocks or under a rose bush.

Next, gather materials from you home and yard such as sticks, pebbles, grass, feathers, buttons, pine cones, fabric and ribbon. Like any good home, the Fairy House should have a strong foundation. Use a flat rock, piece of board or flat sticks.

Each person can create their home using simple objects found around the house. Craft stores also sell inexpensive objects to add to your home, or you can even make them from clay, cardboard or fabric.

The possibilities for creativity are endless. And it’s a good lesson in learning the importance of a strong foundation while strengthening the foundation of those you are creating with.
